How an Industrial PC Facilitates the Intelligent Upgrade of a Tobacco Factory?
Background:
In recent years, Central Asian nations have been accelerating the pace of digital transformation within their manufacturing sectors. This trend is particularly pronounced in the tobacco industry—a heavily regulated field—where increasingly stringent demands are being placed on the stability of production equipment, data acquisition capabilities, and adaptability to industrial environments.
The client for this project is a large-scale local tobacco manufacturer. Their existing production line monitoring equipment, having been in service for many years, suffered from several issues: insufficient connectivity ports, sluggish system response times, and a narrow tolerance range for voltage fluctuations. Consequently, the equipment frequently required restarts—or even suffered outright failures—due to voltage instability or dust accumulation, severely compromising production efficiency. As a result, the client decided to upgrade the equipment at several critical workstations.
During the initial phase of project consultation, the client clearly articulated several core requirements for the industrial panel PCs: support for wide-voltage power input; a comprehensive array of ports for connecting external peripherals; touchscreens capable of glove-enabled operation; and the ability to maintain stable, continuous operation over extended periods in environments characterized by elevated temperatures and moderate dust levels.
What Taicenn do?
Following our initial discussions, the client forwarded a specifications requirements sheet detailing their specific expectations for this industrial panel PC. The document covered a wide range of criteria, including screen size and resolution, processor performance, touch technology, interface quantity and type, power supply range, operating system, protection rating, and mounting method.
Upon receiving the document, I extracted each individual requirement listed by the client and—working side-by-side—annotated them one by one with the corresponding capabilities of our existing models. Of the dozen-plus parameters listed in the client’s document, we were able to match nearly every single one.
Ultimately, both parties formally confirmed the product model as TPC-DCT170T2. From the moment we received the specifications sheet to the final selection of the specific model, the entire process took less than a week.

Why It’s Suitable for Tobacco Factory Environment?
Wide Voltage Power Input (DC 9~36V):
Tobacco factories have numerous devices, leading to voltage fluctuations. The wide voltage design ensures stable operation even under unstable power conditions, preventing production line interruptions caused by power supply issues.
Rich I/O Interfaces:
Multiple USB, COM ports, and GLAN make it easy to connect peripheral devices such as tobacco moisture sensors, temperature monitoring modules, and PLC controllers, meeting the needs for data acquisition and machine-to-machine integration.
High Brightness & Stable Touch Response
The 17-inch industrial-grade capacitive touch screen supports glove operation with fast response and strong anti-interference capability. Workers wearing gloves can still operate precisely, improving efficiency.
Compact Size + High-Definition Display:
The 1280×1024 resolution delivers clear visuals, well-suited for MES system interfaces and production monitoring dashboards, allowing operators to easily check output, equipment status, alarms, and other information.
Fanless / Low-Power Design (optional for this model, optimized based on site requirements):
Reduces dust intake and fan failure risks, extends product lifespan, and lowers maintenance frequency.
At last:
Upon receiving the product, the client immediately arranged for on-site deployment. The TPC-DCT170T2 was installed at a monitoring station within the tobacco processing workflow, where it serves to collect real-time data from humidity sensors and temperature modules, while simultaneously displaying the production line’s operational status via the MES system interface. The client provided the following feedback: the touch response is highly sensitive (allowing workers to operate the unit effortlessly, even while wearing gloves); every single interface port has been utilized—none went to waste; and the device maintains stable operation even during voltage fluctuations, with no further instances of unexpected restarts.
A single industrial PC—having traveled thousands of kilometers from Shenzhen to Central Asia—now sits quietly on a tobacco factory’s production line, performing its duties in silence. It may not speak, but its unwavering stability serves as the most eloquent language of all.
